Challenge Cancer UK
In June 2016 Laura Topping (Head of Pre-school at Tower View) will be taking part in a charity bike ride, covering a distance of 130 miles to raise money for 'Challenge Cancer UK'. This will start from the ruins of Macha Pica in Peru, along the Inca trail, through the Andes and finishing along the Amazon Rainforest. Laura has also been taking part in different events such as the Manchester 10K run and fundraising in the nurseries with the help of Carly McDonald (Head of Tweenies at Little Holcombe). Little Holcombe and Tower View raised a grand total of £800.24 for Challenge Cancer UK and we would like to say a big thank you to all our parents, children and staff for their contributions.
Along side the fundraising for Challenge Cancer, Carly organised a 'Bake A Wish' for the 'Make A Wish Foundation UK'. All the staff baked and decorated a cake and the slices were then sold to the parents and children. We raised £115.00! The 'Make A Wish ' charity is very close to Carly's heart as her neice, Samina, was diagnosed with Cancer the year before, needing her leg amputated. The charity supported her through out and helped her through a very difficult time, making some of her wishes come true! Carly and the staff really wanted to give something back.
In October 2014 two of our members of staff at Little Holcombe Nursery performed a skydive in aid of the charity 'SHINE'. This is something we support on a personal level as we have a child in our care with the condition hydrocephalus. The girls raised £1500.00 and they would like to say a big thank you to everyone who donated. - ALL DONATIONS GREATLY APPRECIATED.
We feel it is important for the children to have an awareness of the wider world and get involved in charitable events. We support many charities on an annual basis, some of which are national and some which are a bit closer to home and have touched the hearts of our parents and children.
Here are just some of the charities we have supported: Breast Cancer Awareness – Dare to wear it PINK!, Down Syndrome Awareness Day, The Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital – We raised £6’500 for a lifesaving piece of equipment for a child in our care, Red Nose Day.
We are also proud to sponsor a ‘Donkey’ called Hannah at ‘The Elisabeth Svendsen Trust for Children and Donkeys’, so far we have raised £2900.00.
The Pre-school children have been to visit Hannah and love to join in all our fundraising events.
We are proud to announce we have been asked to be part of Bury's 'I Will If You Will' campaign!
This is a project being piloted in Bury and funded by 'Sport england', to help get the ladies of Bury moving.
Being busy with work, family and other commitments makes it hard to find time to look after ourselves and keep fit, so this is a scheme designed to help women get more active.
