Early Years Foundation Stage

In September 2008 the "Early Years Foundation Stage" (EYFS) was introduced for all children from birth to five years. The EYFS was revised in 2021 and we have made the necessary changes to ensure we are following the framework.

Laying a secure foundation for future learning i.e. when they transfer to school.

 The Learning & Development Requirements

The Learning and development requirements are divided into the seven areas of learning, split into 3 age bands: Birth to Three, 3-4 years and 4-5 years.
The 3 Prime areas below are crucial for igniting children’s curiosity and enthusiasm for learning:-
  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development
  • Physical Development
  • Communication and Language
The 3 prime areas are strengthened and applied through the four specific areas:-
  • Literacy
  • Expressive Arts and Design
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding of the world
We can help children become even more powerful through the 3 Characteristics of Effective Teaching and learning, these are:
  • Playing and Exploring
  • Active Learning
  • Creating and Thinking Critically
